ADSL has been around for a long time and has seen several revisions in its time as speed has generally increased.  The standard offering these days is ADSL2+, which has a download speed of up-to 24Mbps and an Upload speed of about 1.3Mbps.  One of the greatest factors on lack of speed is the distance from your premises to the exchange. The greater the distance, the longer it takes which affects the quality and speed of the service over your copper analogue line.

Fibre to the Cabinet

This offers speeds of up-to 100Mbps download and 20Mbps upload.  The difference is that the copper wire only needs to take the signal from the premises back to the first green cabinet in the street, a much shorter distance.  From here it is converted and sent the rest of the way over a Fibre Optic connection, which is not affected by distance or signal breakdown.

Fibre to the Premises

Similar to FTTC, however the Fibre Optic cable reaches all the way to your business premises giving up-to 300Mbps download and 30Mbps upload.  This package on occasion can be quite costly and availability is limited.

Ethernet First Mile

An EFM line is also symmetric.  EFM makes use of a standard pair of telephone lines to achieve a connection, but the actual speeds are fairly low at around 2-5Mbps.  Multiple pairs can be “bonded” together increasing the speed reaching around 40Mbps, making it a flexible option for companies that are expanding.  New technologies also make this fairly redundant however it is an un-contended product meaning it does have a niche position in the market and again is ideal for VoIP.

Leased Line

A Leased Line is a direct Fibre connection purposely installed to your premises.  Speeds run from 10Mb to 1Gb in both directions.  Installation can take from 30 to 90 days and we can include free installation with certain products.

Businesses in your area can benefit from grants of up-to £3,000 to get Gigabit broadband installed as part of the new £2 million Government incentive.
